By completing this application, you are applying for the Basic Homestead Exemption and establishing a base year value for Stephens-Day exemption. The Stephens-Day exemption will offset any future increase in property value for the county portion of your bill, but does not affect school, city, or state taxes. Qualification requires that you must own and occupy the property as of January 1 of the application year as your primary domicile and legal residence for all purposes, which includes the registration of your vehicles and filing of your state income taxes. Exemptions are not automatically granted. In addition to basic homestead and Stephens-Day exemptions, this online application may be used for completing Senior and Special exemptions should you meet certain age, income, and disability criteria. Seniors who are 62 or 65 years of age or older must provide prior year proof of household income to determine eligibility in the form of Federal and State Income tax returns, if required to file. If Social Security is your ONLY source of income, you will have to upload your most current SSA-1099. Disabled Veterans who are rated or compensated at 100% for service-connected disabilities must upload their VA award letter and DD214. Un-remarried surviving spouses of Disabled Veterans must upload their VA award letter showing spousal benefits. For taxpayers who have a physical or mental impairment that is likely to be permanent and prevents gainful employment, the property owner must upload a letter from their GA licensed physician attesting to such. Un-remarried surviving spouses of peace officers or firefighters killed in the line of duty must upload supporting documentation to determine eligibility.
